What is Alkaline hydrogen electrolyzer?

Alkaline hydrogen electrolyzer is a chemical process that splits water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen gases using an alkaline electrolyte solution, typically potassium hydroxide (KOH). It involves using an electrolyzer, consisting of an anode and a cathode immersed in the electrolyte solution.

In the context of an alkaline water electrolyzer, a bipolar electrode is a conductive plate that serves multiple functions. It acts as a bridge between adjacent cells in the electrolyzer stack. It facilitates the flow of electrical current between the anode of one cell and the cathode of the adjoining cell, ensuring efficient operation of the electrolyzer stack. It aids in the even distribution of the electrolyte (alkaline solution) to the electrodes, which is crucial for the electrolysis reaction.  In a stack configuration, multiple electrolyzer cells are arranged in series. The bipolar plates are positioned between each pair of cells, alternating between acting as the anode for one cell and the cathode for the next.
